Amberwell Health

Locally governed critical access hospitals share infrastructure while retaining their own boards, budgets, foundations and identities. Amberwell Health supports this affiliation between Amberwell Health Atchison and Amberwell Health Hiawatha, two independently governed and locally owned hospitals in Northeast Kansas. Each organisation includes a hospital and associated rural health clinics, with the combined network serving patients across seven locations in six communities.

The affiliation is built around a shared commitment to locally accountable rural healthcare. It enables the participating hospitals to coordinate technology, infrastructure, clinical recruitment and leadership development without transferring local ownership or governance. Amberwell Health does not own either hospital; both operate under a shared affiliation agreement designed to expand their collective capacity.

Hospital and clinical services

Services available through the affiliated hospitals and clinics cover emergency, inpatient, outpatient and preventive care. The range includes primary care, maternal care, cardiopulmonary services, laboratory testing, infusion services, radiology and imaging, surgical care, pharmacy support, nutrition services and health information management.

Community and workplace programmes

Amberwell Health also coordinates community resources and education covering diabetes prevention, heart health, COPD management, medication disposal, advance directives and healthcare benefits navigation. Maternal resources include childbirth education, breastfeeding support, pregnancy testing, fetal monitoring and car-seat and infant safe-sleep information.

Occupational health services include employment-related physicals, DOT physicals, workplace injury management, drug and alcohol testing, respirator fit testing, hearing conservation services and onsite wellness fairs. Rehabilitation options listed across the network include dry needling, fall-risk assessment, blood-flow restriction therapy, pelvic health therapy, craniofacial therapy and LSVT BIG® for Parkinson disease.
