Government First Grade College, Uppinangady

The Government First Grade College, Uppinanagady is one of the oldest colleges in Dakshina kannada district established in the year 1982. The college is situated on bank of Nethravati river having beautiful nature, and near the National Highway. The campus of the college is spread over in more than 7 acres of Government land and enjoying own buildings and adequate infrastructure facilities. The college aims at providing higher education to the rural poor students of putturu taluq at affordable cost. Over the last three decades the college has imparted education to the students of Putturu, Belthangady, Sullia, Kadaba and Bantwal Taluqs and also from other districts like Chikkamagalur, Madikeri and Hassan. The college has educated more than 15,000 poor students, who have excelled in various streams of life. Every year about 5 to 10% of the students pursue their higher education like M.A., M. Com., M.B.A., M.Sc. M.S.W etc.

The College is registered u/s 2(f) of UGC, New Delhi and also affiliated to Mangalore University, Mangalore to impart higher education in Arts, Commerce and Management, Science, Social Work. The college is running nine under graduate courses and has two PG courses MA- Kannada and M.Com which gives opportunity for the UG students to continue their education with affordable fees. Our PG centre is only Government PG Centre with ICT facility in the Puttur taluq. Our college has good infrastructure facility and majority of the classrooms are equipped with ICT facilities. The college is having very competent and qualified faculties in all departments. The college also have well stocked library with books, newspapers, magazines and journals. The college has adequate facility for sports and cultural activities.

There are various clubs/ associations/ committees which are actively organizing various co-curricular and extracurricular activities for the overall development of students. The college team has made sincere efforts for the tremendous development of the college through innovative and skill development based academic and non-academic programmes undertaken by various units of the college. It continues to conducts effective programmes on cultural, sports, NSS, Rowers & rangers, Youth Red Cross, various schemes of scholarships, students assembly, training and coaching for banking and other competitive examinations, campus recruitments, communications skills, Job skills, traditional day, field trips, industrial visits, field projects, internship etc. as per the calendar of events. The Government of Karnataka has provided the free laptops for students for encouraging them in familiarizing the students about the e-learning. The PG department of commerce every year organizes the Intra class and Inter collegiate fest. Due to organizing various co-curricular and extracurricular activities, more students have been attracted to this college.
