Zaira HMR

In the late 1930s, Haji Matiur Rahman walked through the dense streets of Banaras (now Varanasi) with a vision to take creativity to the next level. Growing up in a labour-dominated area, he witnessed his father as an integral part of the weaver community, laying the foundation for the revolutionary Banarasi Handloom Sarees that have earned worldwide recognition.

Using his initials as an acronym, he established the business that would become the brand known today as HMR SAREES. For almost nine decades, generations of our family have earned the patronage of customers across southern India through quality, craftsmanship and trust.

Today, we are carrying this legacy forward while adapting to changing lifestyles and evolving fashion preferences. With this vision, we launched our online retail store, offering customers an extensive range of sarees and traditional collections from the comfort of their homes.

Why Zaira?

We are grateful to the Almighty for blessing us with a daughter during one of the most challenging periods the world has witnessed—the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many small businesses, we faced uncertain times and struggled to navigate the challenges brought by the pandemic. Yet, as the saying goes, every dark cloud has a silver lining, and we remained hopeful for better days.

As a mother and husband, we decided to create an Instagram page in our daughter Zaira's name. Starting from scratch, despite having an established wholesale business, was a difficult decision. But we knew we needed to take a different approach rather than simply wait for better days. Zaira became a source of inspiration and a blessing in our lives.

You can put your trust and faith in God, but you must also learn to tie your camel. With that belief, we began sharing pictures and videos of our sarees on Instagram and reaching out to customers. Our focus was always on delivering exceptional products and customer experiences while building genuine trust.

Our journey took a special turn when we reached a family of 10,000 followers on the same day we celebrated Zaira's second birthday. We took it as a sign and made the bold decision to launch our website, bringing our collection to an even wider audience.
